• Common Core State Standards Initiative
  Georgia joined with 47 other states well over a year ago to develop a set of core standards for K-12 in English language arts and mathematics. The Common Core State Standards provide a consistent framework to prepare students for success in college and/or the 21st century workplace. These standards represent a common sense next step from the Georgia Performance Standards. The Georgia State Board of Education adopted the CCGPS on July 8, 2010.
  
  
• The Georgia Department of Education's Georgia Performance Standards (GPS) for Mathematics
  The Georgia Performance Standards for mathematics have been designed to achieve a balance among concepts, skills, and problem solving. The curriculum stresses rigorous concept development, presents realistic and relevant tasks, and keeps a strong emphasis on computational skills. At all grades, the curriculum encourages students to reason mathematically, to evaluate mathematical arguments both formally and informally, to use the language of mathematics to communicate ideas and information precisely, and to make connections among mathematical topics and to other disciplines.
  
  
• The Georgia Mathematics Frameworks
  The Mathematics Frameworks were developed to support teachers in the implementation of the Georgia Performance Standards (GPS). They are organized by units. Although these units are presented in a coherent, sequential pattern, school-based staffs may elect to reorganize these sequences to accommodate available resources (e.g., texts, technology, and educational media services) and schedules. The units are presented in such a way that they form nine-week segments, allowing for quarterly benchmark assessment of student achievement. They are designed for use by schools throughout the state who may wish to utilize them as resources to guide and inform teaching standards.
  
  
• Atlanta Public Schools
  The Atlanta Public Schools has created extensive resources to accompany the Georgia Performance Standards (GPS).
  
  

Workshops and Institutes

• Georgia Tech Center for Education, Online STEM Professional Development Courses (Statistics)
  The Georgia Tech Center for Education Integrating Science, Mathematics, and Computing (CEISMC), through Georgia’s Race to the Top initiative, is offering FREE Online STEM courses for middle and high school mathematics, science, and CTAE teachers! Each fall, spring and summer, Georgia teachers can take a series of courses on Project-Based Inquiry Learning, Robotics or Statistics. These courses were designed as part of the NASA Electronic Professional Development Network (ePDN) and provide an interactive, collaborative environment to improve your content and pedagogical knowledge. Participants will receive Continuing Education or Professional Learning Units from Georgia Tech for successfully completing each course. Each course requires an average of five hours per week to successfully complete the assignments. • Gifted and Creative Education at UGA
  The Gifted and Creative Education Program within the Department of Educational Psychology and Instructional Technology at the University of Georgia offers distance education in Gifted and Creative Education (GCTWeb). They invite applications for endorsement seeking, and Masters (MEd) and Education Specialist (EdS) degrees in gifted and creative education to be completed through on-line delivery. Their program also offers the endorsement to degree option which is a good route to take for prospective students who want to begin their endorsement with the option of applying for a degree at a later time.
