Wednesday Keynote: Jenise Sexton
Jenise Sexton serves as the Mathematics and Special Education Content Integration Specialist at the Georgia Department of Education. She is passionate about ensuring that each and every learner’s needs are met and believes that when students' needs are met, they will succeed. She also believes in taking a social-emotional approach to teaching so that each student feels valued. Her experience includes serving as an elementary and middle school classroom teacher, mathematics coach and district mathematics specialist in various Georgia counties. Throughout her educational career, she has remained committed to meeting the needs of every student. Thursday Keynote: Rick Wormeli One of the first Nationally Board-Certified teachers in America, Rick brings innovation, energy, validity, and high standards to both his presentations and his instructional practice, which include 44 years teaching math, science, English, physical education, health, and history, as well as coaching teachers, principals, superintendents, and other leadership.He is the author of the award-winning book Meet Me in the Middle as well as the best-selling books Day One and Beyond, Fair Isn't Always Equal: Assessment and Grading in the Differentiated Classroom (Second Edition), Differentiation: From Planning to Practice and Metaphors & Analogies: Power Tools for Teaching any Subject as well as the ASCD book, Summarization in any Subject: 60 Innovative and Tech-Infused Strategies for Deeper Student Learning. With his substantive presentations, sense of humor and unconventional approaches, he has presented to teachers and administrators in all 50 states, Canada, China, Europe, Thailand, Japan, Vietnam, Korea, Australia the Middle East, and at the White House. Friday Keynote: Fawn Nguyen Fawn is a Math Teaching and Learning Specialist at Amplify Desmos Math. She was a math coach for a K-8 school district for three years. Before that, Fawn was a middle school teacher for 30 years. Fawn was the 2014 Ventura County Teacher of the Year. In 2009, she was awarded the Math Teacher Hero from Raytheon. In 2005, she was awarded the Sarah D. Barder Fellowship from the Johns Hopkins Center for Talented Youth. Fawn blogs about her lessons and classroom teaching at fawnnguyen.com. Fawn has been a keynote speaker and workshop facilitator at math conferences throughout the country and recently in New Zealand. She has been a part of the UC-Santa Barbara Mathematics Project Leadership team since 2005. In 2012, she co-founded the Math Teachers' Circle in Thousand Oaks, California. Fawn served a three-year term as a committee member of NCTM's Professional Development Services Committee (PDSC) during 2015-2018. |
